Java Powered Microwave System Design Tools

Site Introduction:

The aim of this site is to promote the understanding and use of Java applets as interactive tools for accurate subsystem design and for exploring the design/operation of microwave components applied to Electronic Warfare systems.

On-site courses up to 5 days duration based on the book can be arranged.

The Sign-Up/Log-In site is free.
When logged in, you can access all book applets, updates, new applets and new microwave white papers.
There is also a forum service for interested users.

The tools developed in the book, MICROWAVE SYSTEM DESIGN TOOLS & EW APPLICATIONS - Second Edition, model all the components and subsystems used in modern EW systems and simplify,

1. Corner-limit design of modern Electronic Warfare receiving systems.
2. Evaluating microwave receiver component and system designs.
3. Comparing the performance of alternative microwave system architectures.
4. Understanding properties and dependencies in microwave component designs.
5. Understanding how EW systems perform operationally in the field
6. Generating design data suitable for incorporation into system specifications.

Some example applet tools are selected from the left-hand pane.
More are available in the eBook Sampler and book Applet Summary links.
Access to all applets is via the CD supplied with the book or an ebook version provided on the Log-In site.
Sign-Up and Log-In is free via the left-hand panel.

Applets run in all modern browsers and in Internet Explorer Version 4 or later with the Java Virtual Machine plug-in installed.
The SUN Java Virtual Machine is available from http://www.java.com.

Comments and suggestions for new applets are gratefully received
Be aware that the new security measures included in the latest Java releases may prevent applets from running although they are safe to do so. You may need to override security warnings to enable operation. Only data files within the code or data files written by you and placed in the running directory are accessed.

MICROWAVE SYSTEM DESIGN TOOLS & EW APPLICATIONS - Second Edition

Java Powered Interactive Microwave Design

by Peter W. East

Hardcopy book plus CDROM updated version published by Artech House Inc, (ISBN 978-1-59693-256-2), January 2008

Abstract:
The original aims of the software ebook are maintained in this second edition. The project is intended to support microwave system designers and offers an alternative approach for the accurate design and specification of microwave components and systems for Electronic Warfare equipment.
This edition combines a conventional technical text book with a complementary interactive electronic book on a CDROM. Whilst the book stands alone as a practical microwave system design reference, the CDROM runs on a personal computer and contains 46 independent small software applications paralleling and building on the topics covered in the text. The software applications or applets, are intuitive, interactive graphical tools, which apply the design theory outlined in the book to produce accurate target models.
This book restructures and expands the technical manual provided in the first edition software package into nine chapters. All the original applets have been improved and nine new applets added.
The principal aims of this method of information presentation are to simplify microwave system design and to speed up the user understanding and learning process. The use of Java applets to explore difficult concepts has grown considerably in recent years and the advantages of truly interactive electronic books are now widely recognized.

    On-site Course Details:

EW System Design & Assessment Course

Based on the author's book and interactive CD, "Microwave Design Tools & EW Applications - Second edition" published by, Artech House Inc, (ISBN 978-1-59693-256-2), January 2008

This course covers the technical design and evaluation of modern microwave EW systems, sub-systems and components and uses more than 40 EW-specific Java Applet models serving as valuable interactive learning aids for demonstrating design limitations, and for optimising and calculating accurate EW design parameters.
The design topics cover the most important technical requirements likely to be met in the EW system design field.
In use, the Applets test the corner limits of each design topic without the user needing to delve deeply into the supporting mathematics and finally provide output data suitable for equipment specification.

On-site courses from one to five days can be arranged, contact email: pwc@Y1PWE.co.uk

MICROWAVE SYSTEM DESIGN TOOLS & EW APPLICATIONS

    Java Powered Interactive Microwave Design

    by Peter W. East

Novel CDROM-based ebook for professionals and students, published by Artech House, Inc in May 2005

    Abstract:
This ebook toolbox exploits Java applets as a very convenient graphical method for not only calculating accurate design parameters, but also serving as a valuable interactive learning aid.
The microwave design topics have been selected to cover technical requirements likely to be met in the microwave radar and EW system design fields.
The 37 applets are complete component or subsystem simulations and are backed up by short background summaries and derivations of the key analysis equations used to model the subject. The eBook includes an extensively hyperlinked technical manual.
In most cases, there is a facility for saving design data to a built-in data console and extracting this to the Windows clipboard for use in other applications, or for incorporation directly into a customer design specification.
